Through our Youth Outreach programs, JFS assists our community's children and teens cope with the stresses and strains of modern life. JFS is committed to helping children and teens become more resonsible, respectful, resilient and resourceful.

VolunTeens

A school-based project for 7th through 12th grade teens in which they participate in a cultural competence curriculum and volunteer at selected sites throughout our community. The program increases the amount and level of "social capital" among teenagers in the Greater Rochester Area through civic engagement. VolunTeens is offered to students at several urban and suburban middle and high schools.

Teen Talk

A preventative program that develops "youth assets" through a series of teen classes and parent workshops. Teen Talk provides participants with a positive character-building experience that improves communication skills, imbues personal responsibility and strengthens the parent/teen bond.

Cross-Generation Emotional Literacy Project (CGEL)

The Cross-Generation Emotional Literacy Project (CGEL) listens to children and speaks to government. CGEL recruits senior citizens, high school and college students to become emotional guides or friends to the children during a child's first grade year. CGEL volunteers promote and enhance the emotional literacy or emotional and social competence of their young friends.

The CGEL project asks seniors to advocate for educational and health policies that promote emotional literacy. The CGEL Project empowers the youngest generation through a network of senior citizen, high school and college student volunteers who have made the cross-generation connection.

Mental Health Consultant at Chester Carlson YMCA

Provides on-site counseling assessments, referrals and services to the enter's children, parents and teachers. The program strives to increasethe children's ability to achieve success in school and in their relationships with others and have the maximum opportunity for positive social and emotional growth.

Competent Kids

The program is offered to youth who attend the YMCA's Chester Carlson and Lewis Street afterschool programs. Competent Kids provides on-site violence prevention and social competency programming for the students in combination with consultation and workshops for staff and parents.

Off to a Good Start

Promotes positive interactions and violence reduction skills for studnets in the YMCA's afterschool program at Roberto Clemente School #8. The program strives to give students skills that will enable them to more effectively resolve conflicts with their peers, teachers and parents.

Jewish Family Life Education Workshops

Preventative workshops, one-shot and time-limited group presentations on relevant and timely topics.
